The short version: your photo and your screen time are processed on your phone and never uploaded to us. Scrombie has no servers, no accounts, no ads and no analytics. The only outside service is RevenueCat, which checks whether you have Scrombie Pro.

Who we are

Scrombie is made by LoRicco & Co LLC (“we”). You can reach us at admin@loriccoandco.com.

Your photo

  • If you use a selfie or a photo instead of one of the drawn characters, it becomes your avatar. Scrombie processes it on your phone with Apple's Core Image and Vision frameworks. Vision finds where your eyes, brows, nose, mouth and jawline are so the decay effect can be drawn in the right places. Those positions are used only for drawing. They aren't stored and are never used to identify you, for advertising or for anything else.
  • Scrombie keeps the prepared photo and the five rendered stages in the app's private storage on your phone, so the widget and the Lockdown screen can show them. They're never uploaded.
  • Choosing a photo uses Apple's photo picker, which gives Scrombie only the one photo you pick, not your library.

Your screen time

  • Scrombie uses Apple's Screen Time frameworks (Family Controls, Device Activity and Managed Settings), with the authorization meant for managing your own phone. It doesn't use Family Sharing's parental controls.
  • You pick the apps, categories and websites that count in Apple's picker. Apple hands Scrombie an opaque token for that selection; the app never receives the names of the apps you chose or use.
  • Apple's framework counts the time and tells Scrombie only when today's running total crosses a mark (every 5 minutes, then every 15 after three hours, up to eight hours). From that, the app works out your stage and vitality.
  • The Details screen, which lists minutes per app, is drawn by a separate Scrombie extension that runs inside Apple's sandbox. It can see app names to draw the list, but it can't pass anything back to the app or off the phone.
  • Scrombie records each day's total minutes, stage, budget and streak on your phone, keeping the most recent 90 completed days plus today. This data is never transmitted, and it is never used for advertising, sold or shared.
  • If you turn on Lockdown, Scrombie asks Apple's Managed Settings to shield the apps you picked until midnight once you reach the stage you chose. That happens on your phone.

Share cards

A card is made on your phone only when you open the share screen. It shows your avatar, your stage, today's total and your streak, never which apps you used. Nothing leaves your phone until you tap Share or Save, and then only the card you previewed goes where you send it. A card you save is in your Photos library under your control; Scrombie never deletes it. Where a card goes after you share it is up to you and the app you send it to.

Notifications

Local notifications only, scheduled on your phone: at most one per stage change (no more than four a day) and a weekly recap on Sunday morning. They never name an app. You can turn them off in Scrombie's Settings or in iOS Settings.

Purchases

Scrombie Pro is sold through Apple's In-App Purchase, and Scrombie uses RevenueCat, a subscription service, to check whether it's active. The app contacts RevenueCat when it opens, when you look at the Pro screen, and when you buy or restore. RevenueCat receives a random, anonymous app user ID, your device's identifier for vendor (a random ID Apple gives each developer's apps, not your advertising ID), your purchase receipt from Apple, and the basic technical details its software sends with every request (app and SDK version, iOS version, device model, language and App Store country).

RevenueCat never receives your photo, your usage or your app list, and Scrombie never sees your Apple ID, name, email or payment details. RevenueCat's handling of this data is described in its privacy policy. On the App Store privacy label this appears as Purchase History and Device ID, both used for app functionality, not linked to you and not used to track you.

Permissions

  • Screen Time, to count time in the apps you picked and, with Lockdown, to shield them.
  • Camera, only to take your avatar photo, if you choose a selfie.
  • Add to Photos, only to save a card when you tap Save. This is add-only: Scrombie can't see or read your photo library.
  • Notifications, for stage alerts and the Sunday recap.

What we never collect

No name, email, phone number, contacts, location, health data, advertising identifier, browsing history or analytics. There are no third-party ad or analytics SDKs, no tracking across other companies' apps or websites, and we don't sell or share data.

Keeping and deleting your data

  • Remove avatar in Settings deletes your photo and its rendered stages from the phone.
  • Start over in Settings erases your avatar, your list of picked apps and your history (and any diagnostic copies Scrombie kept of a damaged data file). If a file can't be removed, the app tells you.
  • Deleting the app removes everything it stored.
  • Cards you saved to Photos are yours, and Scrombie never touches them.

Like any app's data, Scrombie's files may be included in your iCloud or computer backups if you have backups turned on. Apple handles those backups under its own privacy policy. Purchase records held by Apple and RevenueCat follow their policies; if you want us to ask RevenueCat to delete the anonymous record for your device, email us.

Children

Scrombie isn't directed at children under 13, doesn't knowingly collect anything from them, and doesn't use Screen Time's child-management features.

Changes

If Scrombie ever adds something that collects data (crash reports or analytics, for example), this page and the App Store privacy label will be updated first, with the new date at the top.
